This summer come and learn milonga! Its a fun, energetic and simple dance that you’ll encounter at all Tango dance events (also known as “Milongas”)
Milonga is a dance that pre-dates and feeds the later development of the tango. It comes from the synergism of Criolla music (indigenous inhabitants of the pampas and the gauchos) Afro-Uruguyan Canyengue rhythms, Cuban Habanera and the music and of early 1900 European immigrants to Argentina such as Polish, German and Italians.

Milonga is a dance that is included in all tango social dance events. It predates tango and is an entirely separate, lighthearted rhythmic dance. For some reason, most tango dancers make it way too complicated and it doesnt have to be.
A well-danced milonga is a beautiful thing. In this workshop, dancers will learn the secrets of milonga – there aren’t too many, but it involves being un-rushed, grounded and clear. Leaders will learn to slow way down, be on the music and provide clarity for their followers, Followers will learn to listen, be in the moment and not anticipate their leaders.
Plenty of time will be allotted to practice each exercise during the workshops and then we can all go dance for 2 more hours at Practica at Maine Ballroom Dance from 8- 10pm.
